Hey CrossFit Tustin! We’ve just gotta say, last Friday night was so much fun! 16.2 was a great workout and super enjoyable to watch. Our very own coach Andrew Kong and Jevon Hetland are sitting high on the leaderboard after two weeks and Team CrossFit Tustin United is on the cusp of qualification at 17th–the top 15 teams from SoCal qualify for the California Super Regional.
This week we are going to give out the 2 Virus Gift Certificates to our Top 2 Rx athletes for 16.2.
16.2 Winners are…Jevon Hetland & Joe Dunleavy!
Watching Joe and Jevon compete is inspiring. Their grit and determination is unrivaled. You guys give us good goals to chase and your CrossFit Tustin community is thankful for that!
In addition to the top performances from the Rx category, we want to recognize a handful of other notable performances. We hesitate in going down this road because there were so many athletes that PR’d your cleans and had such stellar performances…but here we go!
Athlete #1 – Ralph Garcia. We watched Ralph as he went ballistic on his 4th round of cleans and proceeded to clean well over his PR for multiple reps (185lbs). Not only that, once he was under the bar he brought it up with good speed despite his fatigue. It was the look of determination that gave us chills when we watched him stand up under the weight. This is what the Open does for us, it gives us a context to forge ahead and push our limits just a little more than normal. It helps us peak above the horizon and see what really may be out there for us. Thanks showing us determination Ralph! You inspired those who saw it. Come grab a brand new 2.0 HIIT Shaker Bottle with your name on it at the frond desk.
Athlete #2 – Rachel Cesa. Courage and determination is habit, it’s a choice. Things happen. Good and bad alike, they just happen. The kind of person we are is generally determined by our responses to things. Rachel gave us a chance on Friday night to see what courage looks like in the face of getting knocked down. She was cleaning close to her max for multiple reps and the clock was winding down. With a minute to go the weight knocked her down and rolled over her…literally steamrolled by the barbell. At that moment no one would have batted an eye if she had stopped and let the remaining seconds run out. It was a good effort even without another attempt at the bar. That was not what she chose. She was a bit rattled but she got up, squared the bar up and banged out 2 more reps. It is inspiring when you see the choice being made…in spite of pain or doubt you choose the hard thing. You don’t give in. You risked failure again. BUT IT WAS WORTH IT. This kind of vulnerability and courage inspires us all. Thank you for helping build up your fellow athletes and the community. Grab your 2.0 HIIT Bottle at the front desk.
Many more stories could have been told and we are so sorry for not getting to all of them. Kyle Umeda who finished the whole workout in the scaled division! Going crazy on ALL of his 185lb cleans! There are so many more and we wish we saw and could congratulate ALL of them. Hopefully we can appreciate these two as a small glimpse of the larger picture.
The Open is for EVERYONE. Courage and Strength for whatever comes next week.
