Hey CFT,
We are set up and ready to go. You no doubt have noticed the Wodify Pulse banner up as well as the “Myzone” beneath your picture when you log into class. Crossfit Tustin is now integrated with real time heart rate tracking and display. The software and heart rate tracking is with a company called Myzone. This integration allows you to see your heart rate displayed in real time as you train. That’s not the coolest thing however. After each training session you will get a breakdown of your caloric burn, heart rate zones achieved and other relevant biometric data. Have you ever wondered how many calories you actually burn doing Fran? Do you want to do an active recovery day but don’t know how hard to actually go and still recover? This system will give you insight to that and much more. Here is a sample workout summary email you will get after each training session.
Training Zones
Myzone has training zones that are color coordinated to indicate how hard you're working.
Recovery
One of the coolest things about heart rate tracking is the ability to make sure you are not over exerting when you are trying to recover. This applies to interval training when you are recovering to a resting heart rate or to an active recovery day when you are just going to row for 30:00 instead of doing a hard training day. If you look up and see your heart rate is in the Red Zone then suffice it to say you aren’t recovering :)
Weightloss & Tracking Caloric Burn
Do you count macros? Have you been thinking about trying it out? Losing weight is contingent upon eating enough nutrients to sustain muscle function and growth without sustaining fat storage. This is based on your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) + Activity Multiplier. Your BMR is the caloric need your body has to maintain function while at rest. The activity multiplier is the additional caloric demand your body has to sustain your activity. Myzone will allow you to accurately maintain a caloric deficit for weight loss or a surplus for the Gains.
Interval Training
The most common historical use of heart rate monitoring is for Interval training. This allows you to measure the time it takes to return to a resting heart rate relative to your work interval. As this time decreases you know your body is getting more efficient at oxygen exchange and circulation. This is how you measure your cardiovascular fitness. The faster you recover from an intense bout of running and are able to repeat the effort, the fitter you are getting.
Controlling Effort Level
Why would you want to control your effort level? Everyone falls into one of these categories at some time :
-
Pregnant
-
Took time off and beginning to train again
-
Coming off being sick
-
Want to stay below 60% max HR to burn fat
-
Engage in a genuine active rest day
-
Interval work
Real time Heart Rate monitoring allows you to do this.
What does it Cost?
There is no additional monthly cost to a gym member. The cost is for the Myzone heart rate monitoring belts. This is totally optional and a service that Crossfit Tustin is making available to those who want it. You have 2 Options for My Zone belts. There is the MZ-3 and the MZ-1. (The difference)
We will be making out first bulk order of belts, so if you are ready to go, order your belt through our website and you can pick it up in the office once we get them in. You can also go online and find them on Amazon and Ebay. As a gym we can order together and get a wholesale price. If you already own a Myzone belt then bring it in and let’s get it registered so you can start using it.
